Celebration of World IP Day 2011 at Pharmacy College Bela

Amar Shaheed Baba Ajit Singh Jujhar Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, Bela (Ropar) organized an essay writing competition on the topic of “IPR Legislation & Regulation- Mandate for Pharma Industry” in Collaboration of Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, Chandigarh. The students of B. Pharm. and M. Pharm. have participated in this competition. The result has drawn on 02/05/2011 and prizes distributed to students, in which Ms. Reena Sharma have got 1st Position, Ms. Kripi Vohra & Ms. Parminder Kaur got 2nd and Mr. Narendra Sharma, Ms. Deepika Sharma & Mr. Karan Sharma got 3rd Position. The prizes are distributed by Ms. Divya Kaushik and Ms. Priti Arora members of IP Cell Chandigarh. In the last the Director of the Institute Prof. (Dr.) G. D. Gupta congratulated and addressed the students and told about the importance of Intellectual Property Right. The program was successfully coordinated by Mr. Shailesh Sharma.


AICTE SPONSORED NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “UTILIZATION & COMMERCIALIZATION OF ETHNOMEDICINE IN CHHATTISGARH”.

Columbia Institute of Pharmacy conducted two days AICTE sponsored national seminar on “Utilization & Commercialization of Ethnomedicine in Chhattisgarh” on 27th-28th March 2010. In the inaugural session of the seminar on 27th March 2010 Prof. Bimal Chandra Mal, Vice Chancellor, Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University, Bhilai was the Chief Guest. In his speech the Chief Guest claimed that Chhattisgarh is rich in herbal resources, he also laid emphasis upon proper exploitation of the herbal wealth in the state. He highlighted the medicinal values of neem, aloevera, and tulsi. The Guest of honor Prof. V.K. Dixit , Department of Pharmacy, Dr H.S. Gour University Sagar termed ethnomedicine as a good remedy to cancer upto 80 percent, he also briefed about the ways as how it could be utilized in effective manner . He also emphasized on the ways of its production needs special attention. The seminar was attended by the eminent speakers in Pharmacy Field such as Prof. S.H. Ansari , Dean, Dept. of Pharmaceutical Science, Jamia Hamdard University, New Delhi, Prof. S. Saraf, Director, Department of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, Mr. S.C. Agrawal, C.E.O., Chhattisgarh State Medicinal Plant Board & Dr(Mrs) S. Saraf, Reader, Department of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur. Mr. S.C. Agrawal, stressed that ethnomedicine consists of a lot of medicinal quality in them that is why many multination companies use this quality in production of life saving drugs. He stated that the state Government is emphasizing on the cultivation of medicinal plants in state, he also said that the Government wows to cultivate the medicinal plants in around 2000 acres land. This project is going to take place in this year only. On 2nd day of the seminar Prof. S. Saraf, highlighted the history of ethno-pharmalogy. He said that medicinal plants would be used to a great extent in the treatment of several diseases. Dr(Mrs) S. Saraf, Reader in her speech stressed upon the use of medicinal plants as beauty cosmetics. She further stated the difference between medicinal plants and beauty cosmetics. During the seminar Poster Presentation was also organized in which 20 delegates participated. The winners were Mr. S.K. Gupta, Ms. Apoorva Gupta & Ms. Nyen Sharma stood 1st, 2nd & 3rd respectively. Around 180 delegates from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujrat, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal & North Eastern region participated in the seminar. The seminar was also attended by Shri Kishore Jadwani, Chairman, Mr. Harjeet Singh Hura, Secretary of Janpragati Education Society. Dr. Amit Roy in his speech as the chair person of the organizing committee of seminar narrated that such seminar is being held to bring the awareness among the pharmacy students about the ethnomedicinal use of herbal plant in Chhattisgarh. .
Ph.D. Award

Mr. Amber Vyas, Assistant. Professor, University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur (C.G.) has been awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy by Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur (C.G.) on January 27, 2011 for the research work entitled “DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CYCLODEXTRIN COMPLEXED NOVEL DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM OF SOME DRUGS” under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Swarnlata Saraf, Associate Professor and Dr. S. Saraf, Professor and Director, University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur (C.G.). Dr. Amber Vyas has 6 years of teaching experience and has 10 national and international research and review articles to his credit. He has also presented 15 papers (oral and posters) in various national and international conferences. He is recipient of young scientist award 2010 of Government of Chhattisgarh (Chhattisgarh council of science and technology) in the field medicine and Pharmaceutical technology. He is Life member of APTI and IPA.


Intellectual Properties Rights Seminar held at Sharad Pawar College of Pharmacy, Wanadongri, Hingna Road, Nagpur.
A one-day national seminar on Intellectual Property Rights of Pharmaceuticals was organized by local Sharad Pawar College of Pharmacy, NBA accredited run by Nagar Yuwak Shikshan Sanstha Nagpur on Friday 23rd September, 2011. The event was sponsored by National Institute of Intellectual Property Management (NIIPM). It was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor, RTM Nagpur University Dr. Vilas Sapkal, who emphasized the importance of IPR in today’s era of global competition. Dr. Sapkal appealed the students to patentise their research findings. Principal, Dr. K. P. Bhusari in his introductory speech reminded the audience about China’s obsession for patents resulting its spread in global market. India, too, needs to speed up its patenting activity, he added. Mr. D.P.S. Parmar Technical Member of I.P.O., Chennai, said that small inventions like ‘safety pin’ can change human lives. Such things are fit for patenting. Small innovations can bring big changes in comfort, he said. The plenary sessions saw lectures by Mrs. Poornima Ganesh, Sr. Patent Attroney and Partner TelkPTM Knowledge Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, Mr. TVS Madhusudhan and Mr. Mr. Prashant Patankar, Sr. Patent Attorney. Ms. Ganesh enlightened the audience on trademark, copyright and trade secret, while Mr. Madhusudan spoke on filing procedures of patents. Mr. Patankar narrated the patent specification drafting skills. Dr. M. K. Kale, Professor SPCP and cordinator proposed vote of thanks during inaugural function while the valedictory function was conducted by Mr. Manish Deshmukh. Conveners Dr. K. P. Bhusari, Principal SPCP,and Mr. Hardev Karar, Asst. Controller Patent and Design, NIIPM, coordinators Dr. V. B. Mathur, Dr M. K. Kale, Dr. U. D. Shivhare, and co-coordinator Mr. A. A. Roy and Mr. Pradeep Jaiswal, NIIPM have taken efforts for the organizing the seminar. Large number of faculty members of pharmacy colleges and executives of Pharma industries attended the program. Prominent among them were Dr. B. K. Shrikhande,Director(Tech) Baidyanath ; Dr. M. R. Tajne,Prof RTM Nagpur University ; Mr. A. S. Daud, Director(Tech) Universal medicaments; Mr. Satish Vyawhare, Director Vama Pharma, Dr. N. J. Durugkar. It was possible due to the commitment and vision of Honorable Shri Dattaji Meghe, MP, Chairman of Sanstha; Shri Sagar Meghe, Secretary and Shri Sameer Meghe, Treasurer.
National Level Pharmacy Quiz Competition
The preliminary round of National Level Pharmacy Quiz Competition was accomplished successfully on 5th Nov. 2011 at University Institute of Pharmacy (UIOP), Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur. The focus of the Quiz was to sensitize the budding graduates and post graduates regarding matters that affect them professionally. The Quiz was also meant to motivate and inspire them through the lives and achievements of scientists who have made their mark in the areas of drug discovery and have contributed to human well-being. The great culture & tradition of this country especially in the area of human welfare also needs to be recognized by the youth of today. The competition was organized by College of Pharmacy, Madras Medical College Chennai, whose Chhattisgarh coordinators were Dr. Shailendra Saraf, (Director) and Dr. Mrs Swarnlata Saraf (Associate Professor) of UIOP, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur. The programme was coordinated by Senior Lecturers, Mrs. Chanchal Deep Kaur of Shri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute of Pharmacy Kumhari and Mr. Ajazuddin, Rungta College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Bhilai. In the competition 24 teams of 2 participants each of various Pharmacy colleges of Chhattisgarh actively participated in which the first winner team was from University Institute of Pharmacy, Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur and second winners were two teams from Rungta College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Semi-final and final rounds of quiz will be at Chennai during National Pharmacy Week Celebrations in the third week of November 2011. Various attractive prizes for the winners have been declared for the motivation of students. These activities provide information with elements of entertainment, so that it relieves them from the monotony of everyday course work, while preparing them into wholesome professionals.
